You spend years trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you are both breathless. They crash ... they hit the roof ... you patch, comfort and assure them that someday they will fly.
Finally, they are airborne.
They need more string, and you keep letting it out.
They tug, and with each twist of the twine, there is sadness that goes with joy.
The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as meant to soar ... free and alone.
Only then do you know that you have done your job.

So true, MWS!
I look forward to the day my children will soar, and yet at the same time, afraid they will leave their dear old dad behind too!
Hi Tiger,
Sighs...One of mine has left already and the one with me may leave sooner than I hope...
Still, parenting has been a beautiful experience...
Take care and God bless you and your beloved family.
Cheers!
the best decision i made as a parent was to allow my young sons to live away from mapa in their own condo a year ago ~
Noooo, I didnt experience the woes of empty nest syndrome…in even I felt truly liberated when I stopped being a helicopter mum …
Wow, I shld hv let my "kites" fly with the wind earlier.
Great article, as always.
Thanks for sharing!
Dear Michelle
How lovely to hear from you again! Thank you so much for sharing from your heart. I am amazed you have kids because you look so YOUNG!!!
I am sure your sons are soaring like eagles in the sky thanks to your willingness to let them fly independently.
Take care and may God bless you and yours always.
Do keep in touch! Thanks for the encouraging words too.
Cheers!
